PortwineDay 2021 at home

Portwineday used to be all about traveling in the Douro, meeting people, dancing, drinking, and having fun. This year Portwineday 2021 was more about receiving lovely samples at home, pouring them, and having a nice tasting with Paulo Russell-Pinto from IVDP, the Portwine Institute. It was a pleasure, even sitting in my own chair, sharing a glass of Port, thinking about good times. Dinner by the river is memories and hopes for the time to come. We will all be back in the Douro and Porto, before we know it. My first plan is this spring, to go and visit friends and partners in the cellars, in the vineyards of the Douro and sitting at the table enjoying bacalhau. Taking a cab to Matosinhos, eating fresh fish at the restaurants here, laughing and having a good time with friends around the table.

This is how we do PortwineDay in Porto!

Gammel Portvin i Vordingborg

Old Madeira, fresh riesling and the best company

Sometimes being at the right place at the right time can give you unique tasting experiences. It is my experience that being close to André Ribeirinho will increase the chances a lot. When he involves his good friend Dirk Niepoort to be a part, then the potential for good wine experiences has no limits. This happened again this year, when we were at the Port Wine Day. We got stuck at a Quinta with not so interesting wines, and on a Saturday night that is not fun. A short time later we were sitting around a table at Quinta do Napoles with Dirk Niepoort as our generous host. I cannot thank Dirk enough for his generosity and hospitality.

These were the wines served to us this evening, and apart from the first one, all wines were served blind.

1960s is a legendary decade for Portwine

A Flight of the Sixties is something you should not miss. This is the highlight of the Port Wine Day 2017 and this master class will take us through a very interesting decade. The tasting was conducted by Bento Amaral and a few of the producers. Thank you IVDP for the invitation to this Portwine event.

1960s Portwine
The conclusion after this tasting must be that, based on these wines, this is a legendary decade for Portwine. Only one of the 18 wines tasted was given less than 90 points. That is for me pretty outstanding.…

Pizza & Portwine = perfect

Pizza and Portwine is a perfect way to start this years celebration around PortWineDay. After an early flight out of Copenhagen for me, we arrived to Porto before lunch. We went to the IVDP (officiel Portwine Institute and our host) where we should have this lunch.

In a time where Portwine is still struggling with an ‘old man’s image’ is this a nice and modern approach to set the scene for a few informal days in the land of Portwine. The next couple of days will be in the oldest demarked wine region of the world: The Douro. Here we will visit vineyards and wineries, have fun and learn even more about the region and its lovely wines.

Clos de Crappe. Hvad pokker er det?

What the hell is Clos de Crappe?
