Blandede noter, Pacalet, Thomas, Trois Marie etc.

2010 Domaine Belle, Les Pierelles, Crozes Hermitage

Barros Colheita 1964 & 1966, Wines of the Week

Portwine tasting of the 1970s decade

During Port Wine Day, on the 10th of September, I was invited to this masterclass. The subject was Portwine from the 1970s decade. The tasting was conducted by the highly acclaimed Technical Director from IVDP Mr. Bento Amaral. The 1970s was a decade with only few declared Vintage Port vintages. 1970, 75 and 77. Normally we only have 3 in a decade, so this set the decade in the “normal” category. We had the pleasure of tasting very different types of Port, so to declare an overall winner would not be fair. We had classic Vintage Port and Colheitas, as expected. The fun came in with a Golden White Tawny and an exceptional Garrafeira. So we ended up tasting 16 different bottles in four categories.

Hvidvin fra Douro – Wine of the Week

Wine of the Week, Vinho Verde fra Netto

Niepoort vertical 1978 – 1992

Niepoort is a fantastic producer of classic Portwine. As you my dear reader might know, I’m a big fan of Niepoort. This was a tasting of Vintage Port ranging from 1978 – 1992. A series of vintages that might not rate as top of class, but still I hoped for a good tasting. The wines showed enormous diversity, with a few highlights, but also a few bad bottles. This is what happens when you have to source from bad suppliers. Some of the bottles for this tasting was bought from a broker in Germany, and some from Portugal. The tasting was hosted by Portvinsklubben af 1981 and I attended as a guest and had the small pleasure of introducing Niepoort before the tasting. This is a strong group of very talented, and experienced, tasters of Portwine. I hope I will participate in more tastings in the coming years.

The wines were served semi-blind; we knew which vintages, but not the order.…

Vintage Port 2000 – 2010. Port Wine Day 2014

I was invited to the Douro to participate in Port Wine Day, a celebration of the 10th September 1756 when Douro was the world’s first regulated and demarked wineregion. The celebration took place with a tasting of Vintage Port from the first decade of this century. Each producer brought 2 different years, showing the different styles they made. It was really interesting to taste all these beautiful wines side-by-side and learning the different years better to know. I can conclude that 2007 is still a fantastic year for me, the relative high acidity gives most wines a nice freshness that I like.

Here you will find the notes from the Vintage Port that I tasted, and short comments.…
